Position Overview
We are seeking a Molecular Pathologist or board-certified Medical Geneticist to join our team to provide clinical leadership, oversight, and compliance in our genomics program. This role is central to ensuring high-quality analysis, interpretation, and reporting of whole genome sequencing (WGS), whole exome sequencing (WES), targeted NGS panels, and molecular assays.
The successful candidate will serve as the authorized signatory for clinical genomic reports, ensuring compliance with CPSA, CCMG, ABMGG, CLIA, and Health Canada standards.
Qualifications (Mandatory)
- Board certification from one of the following:
- Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG)
- American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG)
- Canadian Molecular Pathologist with molecular training (fellowship or equivalent certification)
- Demonstrated expertise in molecular genetics/genomics and clinical interpretation.
- Experience with assay validation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight & Reporting
- Review, interpret, and sign out human genomic sequencing results (WGS, WES, NGS panels).
- Ensure variant interpretation aligns with ACMG/AMP and international guidelines.
- Provide consultative support to physicians, genetic counsellors, and healthcare providers.
Quality & Compliance
- Oversee validation of molecular and genomic assays, proficiency testing, and continuous quality improvement.
- Ensure laboratory processes meet clinical, scientific, and regulatory best practices.
- Maintain thorough documentation of validation and reporting standards. Oversee and approve all laboratory testing procedures, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and clinical relevance.
Innovation & Development
- Collaborate with scientific and bioinformatics teams to develop, validate, and implement new assays.
- Guide integration of novel genomic technologies into clinical workflows.
- Contribute to scientific strategy and future expansion of genomics programs.
Education & Mentorship
- Provide training and mentorship to laboratory technologists, scientists, and junior staff.
- Promote knowledge transfer and continuing professional development.
Preferred Experience
- Strong knowledge of regulatory standards (Health Canada, CPSA, CLIA, ISO, CAP, etc.).
- Hands-on expertise in NGS, qPCR, Sanger sequencing.
- Prior experience as a Clinical Laboratory Director, Consultant, or Pathologist.
